Hoomaniya Blow Hole

Hummanaya, just a short distance east of Matara, is second-biggest blowhole in the world and only one in Sri Lanka. When driving waves crash against the base of this sea escarpment it drives water into a crack in the rock, which then blasts out of the top in roaring fountain that can be heard some distance away. The site is now a well-known tourist attraction with a viewing platform and its own visitors' information center, which includes a commentary on the marine life that can be found along the southern coast.
