Kalpitiya Sri Lanka

Kalpitiya is located in Puttalam district, North Western province of Sri Lanka. It is known for its serene beauty. It consists of 14 islands. It has a total area of 16.73 km². The people of Kalpitiya are mostly fishermen.

The Kalpitiya peninsula is famed for kitesurfing and dolphins, of which schools of hundreds can often be seen jostling and playing in the offshore waters. It was relatively recently that thrill-seekers and nature lovers discovered what was once a quiet rural backwater, which is now rapidly expanding as a prime tourist destination.

Dutch Reformed Church

The historic Dutch Reformed Church, tucked away inside Matara Fort, was built by the Dutch in 1706 and is one of the oldest Protestant churches in Sri Lanka.

Dutch Fort

The Portuguese fort that stood where the current Negombo Fort is situated was mostly destroyed by cannon during the Dutch siege in 1644. The Dutch fort was built on its ruins, not on the usual square pattern, but on a pentagonal one, though it had only four bulwarks. The fifth one was never built.
