Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple
This important and revered Hindu temple, built by the Chinmaya mission of Sri Lanka and dedicated to Hanuman, commemorates the legendary conflict between Rama and King Ravana.
The temple houses for 16ft statue of Hanuman, a central character in the Hindu epic Ramayana, and depicted by some sacred texts as an incarnation of Lord Shiva.
The Sri Lanka branch of the Chinmaya mission, committed to promoting the Ramayana philosophy as well as Ramayana Trail pilgrimages.
While Hanuman has not traditionally been as popular among Sri Lankan Tamils as he is in India, in recent times Hindu missionaries and local Tamil spiritual leaders began building Hanuman shrines here too.
