The terracotta murals in this charming Buddhist temple, the largest and the best in the country, have now been joined by the world’s first wood-sculpture Buddha Statue Museum.
The temple’s renowned collection, which includes Sri Lanka’s biggest wooden Maitriya Bodhisattva statue as well as beautiful monastic paintings in oil on wood, are must-see features of the complex, which includes the image house and open preaching hall.
Plans for the four-storey building are focused on a meditation center and conference hall, multipurpose seminar hall, library, and a special chamber to worship the temples many Buddhist relics.
