Luxury in the Footsteps of Geoffrey Bawa

The Sri Lankan Architect Geoffrey Bawa is internationally hailed as one of the most important and influential Asian architects of the twentieth century.

In 2001, he received the special chairman’s award of the Aga Khan Award for Architecture, becoming only the third architect and the first non-Muslim to be so honoured. Lunuganga Estate was his first home.

Left to the Lunuganga Trust on his death in 2003, the gardens are now open to the public and the buildings are run as a country-house hotel.

Having arrived in Sri Lanka you will be greeted by our chauffeur guide at the airport. Take a leisurely drive, just about four hours into the depths of the island – the Cultural Triangle and check in to your hotel. As soon you enter the hotel you will realize that the structure of the hotel itself is worth the journey – Heritance Kandalama surrounded by a jungle and overlooks the Kandalama Lake. When Sir Geoffrey first built the hotel, he told hotel management that one day it would peer out from under a canopy of lush vegetation. They didn’t understand what he was describing. Today, they say he had described the hotel exactly as it is. Enjoy your stay and the Architecture of the great legend.
