Minneriya Sri Lanka

Minneriya National Park is a national park in North Central Province of Sri Lanka. The area was designated as a national park on 12 August 1997, having been originally declared as a wildlife sanctuary in 1938.

This is by far the best places in the country to see wild elephants during the annual Gathering along the banks of the ancient Minneriya Tank (reservoir). The scrub, forest and wetlands also nurture toque macaques, sambar deer, buffalo, crocodiles and leopards, as well as flocks of birds, such as little cormorants, painted storks, herons and large pelicans all fish in the shallow waters.
