Dickwella Sri Lanka

Dickwella, also known as Dikwella and as Dikwella South, is a small coastal market town in the Matara district in Southern province of Sri Lanka. It is located 22 km east of the city of Matara.

This a small coastal market town is known for its long sandy beach protected by headlands, reefs and sand-bars, making it safer for swimming and snorkling. It also has Sri Lanka's biggest seated Buddha statue—50 metres (160 ft) tall—and the walls in the rooms behind the statue are decorated with amazing scenes from the life of the Buddha.

If you prefer cycling but aren't so keen on struggling with uphill climbs, there are many interesting trails in the lowlands of Sri Lanka that take you through a beautiful landscape of tea, rubber and spice plantations or even the ancient capital of POLONNARUWA .

Wewurukannala Vihara

15 miles east of Matara is the town of Dikwella, where there is one of the most amazing Buddhist temples in Sri Lanka. The Wewurukannala Vihara temple is dominated by an image of a seated Buddha. It is 160ft high, the largest statue in all of Sri Lanka and dates back to the time of King Rajadhi (1782 – 1798).

Hoomaniya Blow Hole

Hummanaya, just a short distance east of Matara, is second-biggest blowhole in the world and only one in Sri Lanka.
